It's a miracle Jul 12, 2011
By Tessie It's a miracle itch reliever. There is nothing else like it on the market. We live in a woody area and cannot escape mosquitoes, so I always have After Bite on hand as soon as I walk indoors.
Does the job if applied quickly after being bitten/stung! Apr 08, 2011
By cr0ak I love this product. I've been buying After Bite for eons it seems. Originally it was just a hard plastic tube of basically ammonia with some mink oil and a velcro-like tip for applying. Then they got rid of the velcro tip and just put a plastic cap with a hole in it (and stopped including the mink oil). Then they came out with the Xtra which not only has ammonia, but also baking soda and a couple other ingredients.
Although they're still making the regular After Bite, I find that the Xtra works better. Plus, instead of being a liquid it's a gel, so it stays in place rather than running off the skin.
In order for this product to really be effective, you have to rough up the bitten area a bit. Basically, you need to open up where the stinger went in so that the AfterBite can get down in there and neutralize the "venom" of whatever it was that bit you. (Obviously, this isn't intended for poisonous snake bites!) Also, the sooner you apply it, the more effective it will be!
I've used this product after being bitten/stung by the following critters: mosquitoes, fire ants, fleas, wasps
I keep one in my purse, out on the patio table, in the gardening shed, in the car, in the first-aid kit, and near my computer (the odd flea in the house due to the dogs tend to find me no matter where I am, so I'm always ready when I get a bite!).
NOTE: Because of the ammonia in it, it will sting a bit, so use caution with children (and wussy adults) if you intend to apply it.
