Disappointed Dec 30, 2008
By Dawn Detweiler
"psych mom"
We just received this set and I felt compelled to leave a review. I usually love Melissa and Doug products and have always been impressed with their quality. Not so with this set. They are extremely and VISIBLY poorly constructed. There are visible splinters protruding from the hinge joint for the horses heads, large gobs of glue are dripped all over the legs, crowns and clothes, and the princess has one leg that's visibly shorter than the other, which makes it impossible for her to stand up.
We also have the Modern Family from Plan Toys, and I would highly recommend that set over this one, even though it's not a "royal family."

cute dolls Nov 03, 2008
By M. Durfey We bought these at the same time as the pink Melissa and Doug castle. I thought they were cute and looked durable. I somehow thought my daughter would want 'real' princess toys too and bought a small collection of disney princess babies (little girls). Two months later that set is either broken (heads came off) or clothes missing and I don't think we have an intact doll left. So this set where the clothes aren't removeable and they're built to last is the one I prefer! She has great fun with the characters and I like not having to hunt down little pieces.

a disappointment Nov 11, 2009
By C. McDonald The figures are poorly made, but the horses are the worst. Their legs are held straight by great globs of glue from what looks like a hot glue gun. My daughter immediately tried to manipulate them like you can manipulate the arms and legs of the people. Just as you'd expect with hot glue, the glue separated from the horses' bodies and now they won't stand up any more. They just lie on their bellies. That happened the first night she played with them.

Perfect match for the folding castle Nov 05, 2009
By D. Dhenin We purchased the Melissa & Doug Royal Family along with the Deluxe Folding Princess Castle for our daughter's fourth birthday. This is a great little set and perfect for the castle. We are fans of the Melissa & Doug line of toys and I love that this is not typical "princess"-fare so widely available. These characters don't have a pre-detirmined script; their story is as limitless as your childs imagination. Although not as "beautiful" as the commercial variety; I like the simplicity of these figures. For me, raising a daughter in a "Barbie" driven society, these dolls are a refreshing change!

One of the best toy buys ever Jul 14, 2011
By Ophelia Blue I bought this for my daughter when she was about 4 or so. I paid full price at a gift shop at a children's museum. I spent more than I was going to because all the other toys were cheep plastic and I could tell they would be played with for a day then forgotten about. This seemed like it was good quality and was a good value for the price and I was right. My daughter loves castles and kings and princesses-the whole medieval thing. She played with this constantly. Even the "packaging" is a nice wooded display box that they can be kept in. They are durable and poseable. Such a simple thing that kept her happy for hours and hours over the years. At almost 10 years old she doesn't really play with them anymore but she still has them displayed in her room and is very attached to them. A great value especially at the discount price that they are showing today (half of what I paid) but I am still happy even at full price!
