I ordered this item for my 5year old granddaughter. She loved it. It kept her busy stamping for hours. The stamp set comes in a nice compartmentalized wooden box, but the box does not have a lid. A wooden lid or sliding lid to keep stamps organized & prevent them from getting lost would be a nice addition to this item/.Melissa & Doug Wooden Princess Stamp Set

Melissa and Doug Princess Wooden Stamp Set is a fun toy that encourages creativity and keeps kids occupied. This stamp kit comes complete with nine different stamps, a small ink pad with pink and purple ink, and five colored pencils for your child's creative enjoyment.
Melissa and Doug toys are known for education, creativity, and durability and most every product the company makes can be counted on to posses at least two of these qualities. The same is true with this toy. The Melissa and Doug Princess Wooden Stamp Set isn't big on educational quality, but it does encourage creativity and the set and storage container are made from wood, for better durability. The wooden container offers easy storage so that pieces do not get lost and the product's individual pieces are designed to last.
Melissa and Doug Princess Wooden Stamp Set is simple yet fun and requires little supervision or explaining. My little princesses like this toy and still find it fun, but I have noticed that it lacks the staying power of some of their favorite toys. Unless I suggest it, they are not likely to use it. They do like it, but I think they have become a little bored with it. They prefer toys with movement and sound, and this offers neither.
This stamp set is certainly durable, but one thing that isn't made to last is the ink pad. I like that the Melissa and Doug Princess Wooden Stamp Set comes complete with its own ink and my girls strongly appreciate that the ink is colored purple and pink. However, don't expect the ink to last very long. The small blotches of ink will not offer many stamping adventures, so be prepared to purchase additional ink stamps within a few months.
Although not the perfect toy, the Melissa and Doug Princess Wooden Stamp Set is nonetheless a good toy for little princesses everywhere. It has many positive qualities, encourages creativity, and is priced right. Like I said, it lacks staying power, but it has enough positive qualities to recommend.

 Very appealing but doesn't work well Jan 11, 2011

My daughter, almost 4 years old, has a hard time getting the stamps to work properly. She keeps telling me it isn't working right, and when I go to check I see that the stamps are not absorbing the ink enough for it to transfer to the paper properly.
When I try it, I have to press down hard on the ink pad and really milk it and then it will stick to the paper properly.
The stamps are cute, the wooden storage compartment is cute... but I am not impressed about the ink. I am not sure if there is something wrong with the ink we got or not. I do have other inkpads, made by a different company, and I am going to try the stamps on them to see if we can't get them to work better.
It's cute, and could be a lot more fun if they worked properly so they wouldn't frustrate a child.

So sad. I bought this for my princess-loving 2 yr old granddaughter who loves to stamp. The stamps have no color. They aren't dried out, they are damp, but no color comes onto the stamp. very disappointing for the little one. I am hesitant to buy the extra stamps because of the reviews on them.

We bought this set from Amazon as one of our daughter's Christmas gifts. She had been asking for a stamp set and was so excited to unwrap it. We opened it and everything looks great, except.. the stamp pad is completely dried out! It was wrapped in cellophane so obviously this kit has been "on the shelf" for a while. We even added water to try to get some ink out of it, but it doesn't work. It's very disappointing for my daughter to have a gift she wanted but can't play with it on Christmas morning! For the cost of this thing, and the usual quality of Melissa and Doug products, I'm surprised. Guess I'll be heading out to an office supply store tomorrow to buy stamp pads. I don't recommend this set unless you have extra pads on hand.
