Cute horse puzzle Dec 28, 2009
By Lisa M. Anderson We bought this puzzle for my 3 year old daughter for Christmas because right now she is in love with horses! Some pros and cons about the puzzle:
Cons: - There is no picture of the puzzle on the background. For some reason, I thought there would be (as we have a couple very simple Melissa & Doug puzzles where when you remove the pieces, the picture is on the back so help the kiddo put the pieces in the right place.. and there isnt here). It'll take my daughter some practice, but its kinda hard to find what goes where when you dont have a picture of the puzzle! - Some of the pieces are tight fitting. I think this may be because its new.. we just need to break it in some, but some of the pieces you have to give some force to put them together.
Pros: - The durability.. gotta love Melissa & Doug! We are a huge fan of them, have so many of their toys, and the durability of this toy is excellent. Much better than those cardboard puzzles! - The puzzle pieces are perfect for my daughter's hands. They aren't too small, so she can try to put them together. - The picture isnt bad either! My daughter loves the picture of the horses! I do appreciate how the horses are all different colors.. it makes it easier finding which pieces go where (5 horses.. all different colors, it helps!).
Overall, we love this puzzle! I rated it a 4 star just simply b/c of the missing background picture.. dont get me wrong - the puzzle is not difficult to put together at all, but for a young child it might be.. simply b/c they have no picture of what they are putting together!

Great puzzles Apr 28, 2008
By K. Matthews My daughter is 2 1/2 yrs old and loves these puzzles. She does them over and over again. The wood backed pieces make them more durable than cardboard puzzles - and they are great for spatial reasoning.

Great picture but hard to manipulate the pieces Dec 29, 2007

"mom at home"
We have a couple other M&D puzzles with fewer, larger pieces. The 48 piece ones we got here are by nature of their smaller piece to thickness ratio, harder to take apart and fit together. I'm hoping it gets easier and we're able to sort of break it in. Overall, great M&D quality, as always
great puzzle May 22, 2012
By Sugar Land Grandma My grandson is three years old and loves puzzles. He's done this puzzle hundeds of times and it still looks new. Great quality.
Fun product but dismal quality May 21, 2012
By Jaya I loved the picture, tray and how sturdy it all felt till the pieces started chipping frequently. It's a choking hazard with my two year old who just loves arranging all the horses and the background picture. I had to return the product and hoping the replacement is of better quality else this maybe the last puzzle that I will buy from Melissa and Doug.
