Older kids (and - funniest of all - adults!) who play with it adore this toy. A great buy - who can beat under $10 for a classic wooden toy with a twist?

We have the Vehicle Sounds version of these blocks - both are very cute and a perfect birthday gift!

Farm and Vehicle sounds blocks a must for all children  Jan 07, 2005

My son received these for Christmas and his 1st Birthday. He loves it when he matches up the animals or vehicles and makes them make the sounds. He hasn't mastered it but has more fun with it. And now that he's 2 1/2 he's even more interested in how it works. Although a word of caution. When he was teething he thought these blocks were great to scrape his gums on. Which would have been fine because they are smooth but they have the little rubber dots to contend with. He managed to pop off one and now the ambulance doesn't sound. And he did not swollow the dot (which is easy to have happen). But these are essential cause and effect toys that all children will love. We gave our neice the farm set and she still plays with it daily. Great toy but another little thing to remember with the rubber dots...supervise and count the dots!

Honestly. Are people ignorant and just negative at every given opportunity? What's with such horrid reviews of this product? One, Melissa & Doug has the BEST customer service. If your sound blocks don't give the desired noise, call M&D. They'll send you new ones free of charge. Seriously. (They very happily replaced my train puzzle bc it didn't make the requisite "whoo whoo" noise.) Two, I love a puzzle that has only two pieces. What parent wouldn't?? And, finally, this toy really does challenge younger children. We had it forever, and my son always loved to help me put the pieces together. At 20 months, he assembled his first match on his own - much to his and my surprise and delight. He now loves to make all the matches, many times over. This puzzle is definitely more of a challenge than the ones w/the corresponding picture or shape under each piece (a lot of M&D puzzles).

We bought this for our son when he was about 18 months. It only frustrated him that he could not put the blocks together correctly in order to make the animal sounds. So we shelved it. Then at 2 years old, he rediscovered it and loves it! He is so proud that he is able to manipulate the blocks in order to create sound. This is a toy that rewards fine motor skills. And at 2, he is very interested in the various animals & their sounds.

This is a very high quality toy and I am surprised at some of the negative reviews here. My son has beaten the heck out of these blocks and they are still working just fine.

We love this one so much that we just purchased the similar "Transportation" sound blocks - also by Melissa and Doug.

What a great concept ole "melissa" and "doug" came up with. Blocks with different farm animals that only make the sound of the animal when matched up correctly. Unfortunately, they should have spent a little more in the audio department. All the sound is garbly and distorted. Even better, the rooster sounds like he's being butchered, the horse sounds distressed, as if being chased by a pack of wild hounds.

I would have been willing to pay a couple of bucks more for a better product.
