Wish I had just bought the larger set of 60 blocks in the first place... Aug 09, 2009
By Tracy I bought two boxes of these blocks for my son when he was two because blocks are a wonderful open ended toy. The blocks were well made and the paint never chipped on ours. Although the product was as described I would not buy them again.
I found these to be so small it took a lot of patience and time to build larger structures. My son's creations would take a while to build, then fall over easily. My son and I had a few opportunities to play with larger blocks and it was so much fun to assemble huge, more stable towers, quickly. I gave all our little blocks away and bought the Melissa and Doug set of 60. We now have a daughter who is almost one and both children use them daily in different ways. If I could do it all over again I would have saved money and began with the set of 60. We are considering a second set of the larger blocks since they are so much fun and well worth the money. [...]

By J. Murtha I called the company and they assured me that all Melissa and Doug toys are painted with non toxic paint and that they test often.

Less is more, in the toy world Jan 09, 2007
By Writer Mom Of all the high-tech gadgets my kids got during Christmas, the toy they kept going back to was these blocks and another little block village set that I bought to go along with this one. Even the 13-year-old son of a friend got involved. Good toy that will keep interest!

Grandson LOVES these blocks!! Oct 24, 2008

"star gazer"
My 4 year old grandson, and his parents, were thrilled when he receieved these blocks yesterday. We'd been unable to find colored wooden blocks in any local stores. I was happy to see that the yellow blocks were just as vibrant as the red and blue. In the picture I saw they looked rather pale.
What I wish I'd known prior to purchase is the dimensions of the blocks. They are smaller and thinner than I had anticipated. That being said, their size has not diminished my grandson's enjoyment one iota. He likes to build roads with the blocks and can't wait to build the castle pictured on the box the blocks came in. (As soon as we can find a time when his little sister isn't around to knock it down, that is.)
I do like the variety of shapes as it helps him to learn more about triangles, squares, rectangles, etc. The small size of the blocks is the only thing that detracted from the purchase. Otherwise they earned an A+ from this grandma!

Tried and True Dec 31, 2007
By D. Irwin We are grand parents from the pre-computer, pre-video game era, when a carboard box became a puppet theatre and a sheet over a couple of chairs became a tent on a jungle safari. Wooden blocks leave it to the child's imagination as to what he or she can create. The Melissa and Doug products are naturally simple wooden shapes. The craftsmanship is excellent and the blocks will last for years (requiring no upgrades or patches!).
