Works great with the Melissa and Doug Ice Cream Parlor Set!! Apr 02, 2011

I bought the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Ice Cream Parlor Set but I wished it came with more ice cream scoops. Then I saw this set and thought it would be a great way to get more ice cream scoops without having to buy a second set of the same thing. As far as I know you can't buy any of the Ice Cream Parlor Set pieces separately. It turned out to be even more fun than the Ice Cream Parlor Set!! My 2.5 year old son loves to cut the fruit and the toppings are a fun addition as well. I wasn't sure if this set would work with the Ice Cream Parlor Set but I'm happy to report that it does! I do have 3 minor complaints. Even with these minor flaws I would purchase this again.
1. I don't like that the knife is made of plywood and the outer layer of wood is coming off. This would be better if it were plastic like the scooper.
2. The toppings are not magnetic and slide off easily.
3. The box that this comes in is cardboard. The Ice Cream Parlor Set comes in a really nice wooden box.

My daughter got to pick out a toy at the toy store and this is what she picked! It is the cutest thing. The scoop uses a magnet to "scoop" the ice cream and then with a push of the lever it places the ice cream- like a real ice cream scoop. My 5 year old thinks it's the coolest thing. Plus they can cut the strawberry and the banana in half which she loves too. All the dishes and fruit are made from real wood except the scooper part of the scoop. The ice cream and toppings are made of plastic but very well made. The toppings are more like a rubbery plastic. My one year old also loves this toy and keeps her entertained for a while.
My 5 year old got to take a toy to kinder one day for toy day and she said all the kids were lining up to play with it and she hardly got to play with it at all! This is also a great price. The toy store wanted $30 (but luckily they had it mis-marked so I got it for $20).
I personally don't see a ton of educational value to this but they can practice following directions by taking your order and making it specifically how you ask. We have fun with that game.
I think for their birthdays I am going to get the other ice cream set with the cones to go with this!

I have a 3.5 year old and an 18 month old and they love to play with this toy. It is well made and it stimulates creativity and development. I definitely recommend this toy to others.

My kiddos (currently ages 4 and 2) got this for their birthday last year and it has remained a favorite ever since, adding to their toy kitchen and other pretend items. I love that the scoop is magnetic and picks up the ice cream! My only complaint is that the little velcro pieces on the fruit came off right away (though I'm sure they could be glued back on) and the handle of the knife came off so we've had to fix it.

My kids love this toy. They also have the parlor set, which they played with so much that I decided to get this one too. So glad I did; they play with it all the time and friends that come over love it too. I have a 4 year old and a 10 year old and surprisingly, the 10 year old plays with it too. Very durable, just wish the toppings were magnetic too; they fall off sometimes, but the kids don't seem to mind much. Love all the Melissa and Doug stuff we have! And GREAT prices on these at Amazon....Same item at PBK is WAY more expensive....Love Amazon!
