Highly recommended - especially for people with Chemical Sensitivities Mar 19, 2006
By Grass Tiger This soap is fantastic. I use if for everything. I am severely chemically sensitive and almost all the soaps, all the detergents and such on the market make me extremely ill. This is the only thing I can use. I use it for cleaning the toilet, counters, floors, as a body soap and sometimes as a shampoo (but it is a little drying). I am unable to tolerate the ones that have essential oils added (the scented ones), but this unscented (baby, mild) one is perfect. In the shower it lathers up very nicely. I buy it in this size bottle because the big gallon ones are hard to find in the unscented and hard to handle and the smaller ones are more expensive for me. My family (of three) goes through one bottle per month. Since this is very concentrated only a little tiny bit goes a very long way.

Trial and error resulted in HUGE success.... Mar 18, 2008

The shampoo itchies drove into the arms of Dr. Bronner. The first time I used Dr. Bronner's Baby Castile Soap on my hair, I had that sinking feeling in my stomach upon rinsing...my hair felt soooo sticky. No time to start all over, so I just slathered on some creme rinse. Words can not convey my surprise when I rinsed the 'rinse' and then stood in front of the mirror. Even wet, my hair has life and body in it; then when it dries, the results are soft, managable, and oh the curls. Nothing to date has even given me these results. As for toothpaste, well...50 years of commercial toothpaste has warped my perceptions but I am willing to learn (slowly). By the way, you should see what this stuff can do when applied to household cleaning (windows not included), it makes my hardwood floors shine.

great soap Apr 07, 2011
By marissa I bought this soap because I was looking for a shampoo without harmful lathering agents. My hair has been super tangly all my life. I used TONS of conditioners on it and still, within an half-hour after brushing it would be a tangly mop. I recently tried a commercial no-lather shampoo and loved it, but it cost WAY too much, and I went through one bottle in less than a month. I found a recipe on-line for a homemade shampoo using castile soap, so i bought this and it works wonderfully as long as you use an apple cider vinegar conditioning rinse afterward. I did not know about the rinse at first, and I admit the shampoo made my hair thick and waxy feeling, but once I used the rinse....,FANTASTIC. My hair is so smooth and shiny, I blow it dry after showering, and I hardly have to brush it at all. My hair reaches my shoulder blades, and has always been unruly so this is amazing. I have also been using it as a face, body and hand soap. plus it is great for cleaning carpet and leather.
However this is just a vegetable oil based soap, not some kind of magic potion, so don't expect miracles.
recipe: 1 part castile soap, 1 part water, 1 teaspoon oil. ( I used olive oil, but you can use grapeseed, coconut, jojoba etc.) add essential oils to make it smell good. be sure to use an apple cider vinegar rinse afterwards.

It's not magic, but it is phenomenal! Jul 19, 2009
By Jamie Gilman I highly recommend Dr. Bronner's Unscented. I start using it in a spray bottle with baking soda and water because it does not trigger my migraines and when I realized how well it cleaned I started using it to clean pretty much everything in my home.
The scents and chemicals in mainstream cleaners were causing such severe migraines that I could not clean my house. Newer `green' cleaners from Clorox and the like did not help either because of the fragrances. I learned about Dr. Bronner's and gave it a try. The scented versions are too strong for me so I stick with the unscented. Most of my friends like the unscented too because they can add whatever essential oils they need (or are in the mood for) to clean.
Information on the internet for green cleaning is all over the place and there is a lot of bad advice out there. I recommend getting a book on green cleaning that will bring all of the information together - check one out from your library or purchase one if you've got a little extra money. For a basic over view of green cleaning and great cleaning recipes, I recommend Jill Potvin Schoff's Green Up Your Cleanup (The Green House). For a comprehensive book with a lot of depth on green cleaning and green lifestyle choices, try Renee Loux's Easy Green Living: The Ultimate Guide to Simple, Eco-Friendly Choices for You and Your Home. (I have written reviews for both books.)
The only things I do not use this soap for are washing my hair and doing the dishes. I have really oily hair and the castile soap leaves it very stringy and with a lot of oil in it. I've got several friends who use it as shampoo and they do not have the same problem that I do. I also do not use it for dishes because it is more cost effective for my to get Seventh Generation dish products from Amazon's Subscribe & Save program. As a side note, Dr. Bronner's works great with oxygen bleach (like OxyClean) for laundry, but I use Seventh Generation laundry soap and oxygen bleach instead because it is more cost effective per load.
Yes, the writing on the bottle is kooky, but nothing says you have to read it. This castile soap works better then any other castile soap I've tried. I do not normally spend money with companies that speak in terms of religion, but given the safeness and effectiveness of the product combined with their IMO certified fair trade practices to purchase organic ingredients, I don't care WHAT the label says.
*It is also important to note that a previous reviewer (Dc - 1 star) is correct - this is not an aloe vera product. On the search listing it uses the correct title, but on the product page it refers to it as aloe vera product. I only mention it because the previous review is jumbled to say the least. The product contains: water, saponified organic coconut & olive oils, organic glycerin, organic hemp oil, organic jojoba oil, citric acid, and Vitamin E.

I will not use anything else but this and other pure castile soaps on my baby boy. Johnson & Johnson is too harsh and I had to switch to this after he got cradle cap before I realized just how bad sulfates such as SLS (harsh detergent found it MOST baby and adult washes) dries his skin out. I won't ever let the hospital wash another one of my babies with that Johnsons crap again. Cheap [synthetic] ingredients equal cheap results! Also, I have switched to dr bronners for my own hair care in addition to Aubrey organics and the results are tremendous! My oil glands no longer have to work overtime to compete with the stripping detergents found in most shampoos and body washes. As a result, my hair no longer gets overly greasy or oily and I no longer need lotion!!!!!! I never thought I wouldn't need lotion. I even bought some all natural lotion but my skin is so soft that I do not need it! I'm truly amazed.
I prefer the almond dr bronners for myself(it has a sweet scent that I appreciate!!)
Why give money to companies who could care less about your health when you can buy from a company that uses ingredients you can actually pronounce!
Also, I am going to try this in the wash for my cloth diapering. I already use a very mild eco friendly detergent so I am pretty positive this will work as cloth diapering requires Hot water and very little detergent as is so this will definately save even more money.
GO GREEN! =)
